Spiritual Practices for our busy lives.
Having a busy schedule is no excuse for neglecting spiritual practices.

Getting in touch with your spiritual side is said to produce positive benefits. Whether you are a member of a congregation and worship weekly or you repeat personal mantras during meditation sessions at home, there are many ways to develop a connection with your spiritual side. Sadly, a number of people lead incredibly demanding lives and don’t always feel they have the time to commit to spiritual actions. If this sounds familiar, then you’ll be happy to learn that it doesn’t have to be an involved process. Spiritual practices can be very simple and still be fulfilling.

Free Time for Spiritual Practices

The first step is to look at your schedule. For some, this will involve scouring the details of your digital calendar. Other people might find it more helpful to go through an average week to see where downtime is most common. The goal here is to figure out when you have a few minutes to yourself on a regular basis. You don’t need much time, mind you, but you will see the best results when you think about the timeframe available to you in advance.

Consider Your Needs

After you’ve gotten a feel for your schedule, focus on your needs. What are you hoping to get out of this experience? For some, getting in touch with the spiritual side of life is a way of feeling whole or grounded. Other people discover a higher purpose or work through their stress when they engage with spiritual practices. By setting goals for yourself, you will be able to make better use of your free time and reduce the odds of engaging with practices that will not yield the results you are after.

Feel Connected

If one of your main spiritual goals is to feel a sense of connection to yourself and the world around you, there are several exercises to try. Meditation is usually the best way to connect with yourself, but a busy schedule can limit your ability to engage with the practice. Try to take ten minutes out of your daily routine to sit in silence and attempt meditation. Sacrificing this small window can be a great introduction to meditation and help you feel a bit more comfortable with the practice in general.

When meditation doesn’t work, attempt visualization. This is a form of meditation that involves focusing on an image in your mind in order to feel a sense of peace. For some, this can be a tree growing into the sky. Other people find serenity by picturing a ball of light that shines brighter with each breath. Visualization takes hardly any time at all and can be a great exercise for people with busy lives and a desire to feel more connected on a spiritual level.

Cleanse Yourself and Your Spirit

While your schedule might be packed, you probably still make time to shower a few times a week. The next time you jump in the bathroom can be a great opportunity to employ your certain spiritual practices. As you clean your body, start to produce a deep hum in your chest. Keep the hum steady and feel how it resonates within you. Imagine the sound vibrating from the highest part of your skull to the soles of your feet. This simple exercise invigorates your body by “washing away” bad spiritual energy as the water cleans away dirt and grime.

Having a busy schedule is no excuse for neglecting aspects of your spiritual health. Giving yourself a few minutes each day to find spiritual practices that help you feel connected can create a dramatic difference in your daily life and allow you to feel grounded, composed, and ready for whatever challenges life will throw your way.
