How to Start Your Day

This should be obvious, but if you’re truly serious about how to start your day, you need to get an appropriate amount of sleep each night.

Do you ever feel like you go right from being asleep to fully immersed in the day’s responsibilities? For countless people, a busy schedule makes it difficult to experience peace and relaxation. In order to feel spiritually and emotionally sound, it is crucial you know how to start your day in the correct manner. If you’re simply rushing into your routine when the alarm goes off, you could be missing out on an opportunity to get in touch with yourself before the demands of the day begin.

It Starts With Sleep

This should be obvious, but if you’re truly serious about how to start your day, you need to get an appropriate amount of sleep each night. You cannot expect to feel your best if you are skirting by on a handful of hours. No matter how busy your schedule is, you can find time for a full eight hours of rest by changing some habits. Instead of staring at your phone before knocking out, consider reading a book. The absence of the blue light from your screen will help your eyes relax, and reading is known to encourage sleepiness.

Take a Beat for Yourself

Want to wake up and feel prepared for your day? Set your alarm for an hour earlier than you need to get up and get ready. Use this hour for you. Many people get up and immediately take a shower, get dressed, or make breakfast. Instead, see how you feel by sitting in bed and thinking for a bit. You can look at your phone, flip through television or a book, or simply enjoy the first rays of sunshine the morning brings. It may seem small, but this action can have many benefits to your mood.

Invigorate Your Senses

When the morning is cold and you want to stay in bed, you need to do whatever you can to get out of this mentality. If you have the luxury of lying in bed when the weather is harsh, seize it. For everyone else, throw a window open for a moment. This might seem crazy, but a rush of cold air can invigorate your senses and give you a renewed sense of excitement about the day. Instead of wishing you could crawl under the covers, you’ll be ready to begin your morning ritual.

Set a Timer

Are you the type of person who can’t wake up without some coffee? Studies have shown that the aroma of coffee brewing can put people in a great headspace. Set a timer on your coffee maker so that it starts brewing a pot slightly before you plan on getting up. As your alarm goes off,  you’ll be greeted with the fresh scent of coffee. This, in turn, will help you feel more inclined to get up in good spirits instead of trudging through your morning.

Write a List

Plenty of people know how beneficial to-do lists can be when it comes to a sense of accomplishment. When you first wake up, write a list of a few things you hope will happen during the course of your day. Instead of a list of responsibilities, focus on what makes your days feel complete. Write down that you’d like to talk to your best friend or visit your mom. Then, make these things happen. Instead of feeling your day is all personal responsibilities and work, you can infuse a few activities that actually get you excited into the plans.

Getting up on the right side of the bed is not always going to be easy. Life has a way of making mornings very difficult for many people. However, you can start to see better results from your life by putting conscious thought behind how to start your day.
