Summoning Warm Spirits and Bidding Winter Goodbye

Keep your spirits warm during the winter.

People who live in seasonal climates tend to hate winter after a while. Though the first half of this time is loaded with comforting holidays and feelings of togetherness, the second half can often make the world feel like a terribly isolating tundra. Add a handful of unexpected blizzards into the equation and you have a recipe for discontent. Luckily, all things must pass, and seasons are no exception. When the time comes to bid the winter adieu, it can be useful to say your goodbyes in a way that comforts your spirit.

By reassessing how you handle the passage of winter into spring, you can transform the way you feel about your own journey through life. Stop wishing for the warmer days to arrive, and consider these actions you can take to say goodbye to the winter and keep your spirits warm all the while.

Spend More Time Outside

If you’re anything like the majority of people out there, then the winter probably turns you into something of a hibernating bear after a bit. As the temperature continues to drop and the outdoors become a frustratingly messy place to get around, few look forward to trudging into the unknown unless necessary. The last thing on your mind during this period might be heading outside for the pure sake of soaking in the last weeks of winter weather. Still, this action might be able to slowly shift how you feel about the season as it ends.

Time is a funny concept, with days turning into years in the blink of an eye. Often, the seasons pass in such a quick way that most don’t even take notice. It might be unappealing, but spending a bit of time outdoors during the winter can help you find an appreciation for this time. Keep your actions simple: Allow the cool air to hit your skin, look at the way the light bounces off piles of melting snow, and breathe the crisp air into your lungs. These experiences, though small, may shift your attitude in a better direction.

Reflect Upon the Past

After you’ve gotten into the habit of appreciating the season for what it is, get a bit more personal with the process. Think back on the last few months and all of the various events that have transpired. What have you learned during this time? What has changed you and how have you been changed? Did the winter bring any significant moments? Thinking back on your past and focusing your thoughts with these questions can be a huge help for your spirits moving forward into the spring.

The goal here is to look at how each passing season shapes you into a new person. Whether you’ve been through a ton of terrible events, have had blessings come your way, or feel like your recent life has been pretty much consistently the same, analyzing the time has a way of putting everything into perspective. These are opportunities for you to look at your life, learn from what has transpired, and grow as a person. Plus, it will keep your thoughts away from the everlasting chill that seems to accompany the winter’s end.

Do Seasonal Activities

Each season brings with it activities and adventures that can only be experienced during its duration. Before the spring arrives and the days are warm and green, try to involve yourself in some activities unique to this time of year. In the winter, this could be anything from playing in the snow to perfecting your recipe for a hot toddy. Build happy memories within the winter, and you’ll find yourself feeling less of a victim of its icy trappings.

The winter might be annoying to deal with now and again, but each season offers opportunities to learn and grow. Reassess how you view the winter, and try to get into the habit of soothing your soul by finding ways to appreciate the passage of time.
