There are many reasons to be alone in life. While surrounding yourself with good friends and family members can help to nourish the soul, it is equally as important to spend time alone. The more you learn to enjoy your own company, the easier it becomes to feel confident in who you are as a person. Of course, there are times when living a solitary life can create some small troubles. When midsummer arrives and you want to celebrate the season, you may not be sure how to go about these activities by yourself.

Thankfully, there are many ways a person can enjoy the midsummer without having to join a large group. Consider these ideas, and see how you can make the most of this season all by yourself.

Absorb the Rays

Midsummer is a pagan term for the time of year when summer has officially arrived. It is often a period of revelry and ritual in pagan circles. Most midsummer activities take place outdoors, meaning you don’t have to do much to start celebrating. One of the easiest and most rewarding activities to consider is simply enjoying a bit of time amongst the beauty of the outdoors. The world is bursting with colors at this time of year, and a stroll through nature can be a wonderful way to greet the season.

A large number of midsummer pagan rituals center around the worship of the sun. A great way for a solitary person to indulge in this activity is by soaking up some rays. If you don’t want to be near a crowd, you can throw down a blanket or towel right in your own backyard. Head out, lather yourself with the appropriate amount of SPF, and let your body feel the warm, nurturing rays of the sun as they sail along your skin. Who knew getting a tan could also be a way to pay heed to the midsummer?

Practice Wildcrafting

For those who live in areas where nature is abundant, there are some interesting activities to consider. In days of old, human beings would wander the mysterious corners of nature in order to gather nuts, seeds, herbs, and other natural ingredients to be included in meals and medicines. Though you can now go to your local grocery store to pick these items up whenever you require them, there is something to be said for heading into nature and foraging for your own supplies. The midsummer is a perfect excuse to try your hand at this task.

Wildcrafting is an activity that has seen a surge in popularity amongst all sorts of people in recent years. The idea is to go into nature and source ingredients the way your ancestors did long ago. Whether you’re looking for mushrooms to sauté for dinner, herbs to flavor a smoothie, or berries to create a dye for your clothes, the bounty of nature awaits you. For those who don’t live in an area where this is possible, consider taking a day trip to a nearby forest or park to indulge in this activity. Be mindful of the rules regarding going off-trail, however; some places don’t disturbance of the native growth.

Say a Little Prayer

Finally, one activity you can always do by yourself when looking for ways to celebrate the midsummer is to offer a little prayer. It doesn’t matter what religion you belong to or what you believe to be true, the prayer can take whatever form works best for you. Show thanks for the season, for all the year has brought you, and for the unknown events waiting on the horizon. Saying a prayer at the end of each night might help center your thoughts and give you a positive feeling as you move through the summer.

Being a solitary individual does not have to mean you live a lonely life. Find ways to enjoy the midsummer by yourself and celebrate the season in your own way.
