The spring is usually the season associated with renewal. Still, the summer can be a great time to focus on reviving your spirit. In order to do this, you may first want to get your house in order in a very literal sense. When your home is cluttered or in a state of disarray, it can be difficult to find a calm, centered spirit. Since you most likely live a busy life, it can be important to find time now and again to clean out the old junk and find a little bit of peace along the way.

“Cleaning” can be a very broad term with a million associated chores. When you focus on specific acts that can yield positive benefits for your overall health and wellness, then you can maximize how you use the time you spend cleaning.

Sleep Right

A good night’s sleep is crucial for a productive day and a healthy future. Sadly, millions of people suffer from a lack of proper slumber. While it might not cure insomnia per se, focusing on the condition of your mattress can easily help improve your situation. The human body is a biological wonder, but it’s also terribly gross. Even those who scrub themselves vigorously in the shower have bacteria living in and on their bodies. As you sleep, these little organisms settle on your mattress alongside dust and other allergens from the air.

The longer these particles collect on your mattress, the easier it is for them to disrupt your respiratory system and interrupt consistent sleep. To keep your nights peaceful, take time this season to give your bed a thorough cleaning. Vacuum the surface to get rid of dust mites and other tiny pieces of debris. You also want to do a deep cleaning if there are any stains from sweat or food. Try to avoid getting the mattress too wet, as it will likely absorb the moisture and potentially develop mold.

Out With Grout

On the topic of mold, you definitely want to spend extra time when cleaning your bathroom. The entire room is a breeding ground for germs. If you have tile in your bathroom, then the grout between each tile could be housing untold dangers. Grout is usually made from porous materials like limestone. Since bathrooms tend to get warm and wet, the composition of grout makes it a perfect place for mold to develop. Mold is notoriously bad for your health, with the spores of some species capable of causing serious health risks to humans and house pets.

Preventative steps are going to help you a lot here. Make sure to dry the tiles off after you shower. Doing this greatly reduces the odds of mold developing, as there needs to be a certain level of moisture on the surface of the grout for anything dangerous to form. When the time comes to scrub down the grout, mix together baking soda and water in a spray bottle. Spray this solution on the moldy areas, and scrub down with a thick-bristle brush. Wait 15 minutes, wipe down the surfaces with a cloth, and see the difference it makes.

Restore Sight

Improper lighting throughout your home can also lead to a mess of wellness issues. Use your cleaning time to check light bulbs and swap out any duds. If you have unbalanced light in your home, it could impact you with headaches, memory troubles, and stress. Allowing ample natural light into your home during the day, if possible, is also a great idea.

Feeling a sense of renewal is all about creating the right environment within you and around you. Clean your home this season, and prepare your space for all the future has in store.
